Boxing Legend Jake LaMotta![]() Jake LaMotta was born on the 10th of July, 1921 in the Bronx, New York City as Giacobe LaMotta. The Italian American with the nickname 'Bronx bull' or 'Raging Bull' has become a popular identity throughout the sport of boxing. His life story has been immortalized through the hit movie "Raging Bull" which was played by none other than Robert De Niro. LaMotta's name will go down in the sporting history books due to his stellar boxing career which involved the world middleweight title and the stunning achievement of being the first man to ever defeat the pound for pound greatest fighter to ever lace a glove; Sugar Ray Robinson; a feat that LaMotta could only achieve once in six bouts. LaMotta was a stand up fighter that fought anyone and everyone they put in front of him. With a granite chin, tremendous endurance and the will to win under all circumstances, LaMotta captured the hearts of fans and the World Middleweight crown in one of the most recognizable boxing careers in American history. Although under pressure from some fight fixing charges linked to the mafia, LaMotta continued an impressive career against formidable opponents before retiring to become a businessman in the bar, restaurant and entertainment industry. 'The Raging Bull' was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990 and finished his career with an impressive 83 wins, 19 losses, 4 draws with 30 knockouts to his name.
