When two former world champions meet, there is usually an entertaining fight at hand. This was to happen in patches during Saturday nights mostly scrappy Junior Middleweight clash between "Sugar" Shane Mosley (45-5, 38 KOs) and Ricardo "El Matador" Mayorga (28-7-1, 22 KOs) at the Home Depot Center in California.

Mayorga looked bigger and stronger than Shane during the bout but a much faster and sharper Mosley seems to get the points on the board as the rounds rolled on. By round 6, a vintage Mayorga wanted to give the fight fans something to cheer about by testing his chin against the fast and accurate power shots of Mosley. Mayorga withstood the challenge and didn't seem to be bothered by the onslaught from Mosley.

A few rounds went tit for tat but by round 12, Mosley found his rhythm and threw some terrific power shots that hurt a weakening Mayorga. The Nicaraguan native crumbled to the canvas only to get up with seconds left on the clock when he got caught yet again with a super shot from Mosley, reminiscent of his younger days. Whether you love him or hate him, you got to respect Ricardo "El Matador" Mayorga for hanging in the fight with Shane Mosley for as long as he did. Many people had money on "Sugar" Shane to get rid of him earlier but that just wasn't the case until 2 minutes and 59 seconds of the final round.
